Description: Hamas, an acronym for Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiyya (Islamic Resistance Movement), is a Palestinian Sunni-Islamist political organization with a significant military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades. It's the largest and most powerful militant group in the Palestinian territories and a major political party there.
