Type: Product
Description: pg_basebackup is a command-line utility included with PostgreSQL that creates backups of a PostgreSQL database cluster. It takes a binary copy of all database cluster files, without interrupting other database operations. These backups can be used for point-in-time recovery and setting up standby replica servers. Unlike `pg_dump`, which backs up individual databases, `pg_basebackup` backs up the entire cluster. The backup files can be restored by simply uncompressing and copying them to the database data directory. The utility also offers options for streaming logs and parallel compression for larger databases.
