Brand Details
Type: Product
Description: pg_upgrade is a PostgreSQL utility for upgrading a database cluster between major versions without data dump and restore. It reuses existing data files by populating a new cluster with data from the older one, copying system catalog information and creating hard links to data files. It verifies binary compatibility of the clusters but not external modules. It's not needed for minor version upgrades. Before using it, review release notes and back up the database. Limitations include inability to handle changes to data file formats.
