Description: Apple AirTags are small, round tracking devices designed to help users locate their belongings. They work by connecting to Apple's Find My network, a crowdsourced system of millions of Apple devices that anonymously detect and report the Bluetooth signals emitted by AirTags. This allows users to see the approximate location of their tagged items on a map within the Find My app on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac. AirTags use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology for communication. Newer iPhones (iPhone 11 and later, excluding iPhone SE models) can leverage ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for more precise location tracking using the built-in U1 chip. The devices are powered by a replaceable CR2032 battery. While primarily designed for finding lost keys, bags, or other personal items, AirTags have also found use in tracking luggage and even have applications in theft prevention. However, their use has also drawn criticism due to potential misuse for stalking and other privacy concerns. Apple has implemented features to mitigate this, such as sending alerts to iPhones if an unknown AirTag is traveling with a user. The AirTag's location can be accessed only through Apple's Find My app, on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. As of February 1st, 2025, there is no web-based access to track AirTags, although recent updates allow for temporary location sharing via a generated link, valid for one week, requiring an Apple device to create the link.
